Agilent / HP 8648A Description:

The Agilent/HP 8648A Signal Generator is ideal for manufacturing high volume products such as cordless telephones, pagers and two way radios.

The Agilent 8648A is designed for semi automated receiver test, and a variety of general purpose applications, this unit starts with the basic capabilities of the Agilent 8647A.

The Agilent 8648A enhances residual FM, level accuracy and phase noise performance, offers optional pulse modulation and high power, and extends the frequency to 1GHz.

The Agilent 8648A is built to stringent quality standards, promoting reliability and measurement repeatability.

The Agilent/HP 8648A signal generator adheres to the IEEE 4883.1-1987, IEEE 488.2-1987, and SCPI version 1992.0 command language.

The front panel of Agilent 8648A contains two RPGs, the keyboard and the display.

The power supply is a switching power supply producing 4 voltages; +5 V, +15 V, -15 V, and +38 V. The switching supply will only regulate when connected to a load.

The main input to the A10 frequency extension module is the 9 kHz to 1000 MHz RF from the A6 output module. It operates in three frequency bands to cover the extended frequency range of the 8648B/C/D.

The modulation generator (option 1E2) contains the DSP (digital signal processor), memory, DAC, serial I/O for the other assemblies, and output filters. It generates sine, square, triangle, and saw (or ramp) waveforms used to modulate the AM, FM, and Phase modulation states of the Agilent 8648A.

The simplistic design of the front panel shortens the operator’s learning curve and increases productivity.

With 300 storage registers and ten user definable sequences (accessible from a remote keypad), it easily adapts to any test procedure.

Agilent / HP 8648A Key Points:

  • Economical synthesized signal generator.
  • Electronic attenuator.
  • Superior level accuracy.
